PE

Our PE days are on Monday and Tuesday and children need to bring the appropriate kit.

For indoor PE this is a pair of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.  For outdoor PE they will need a pair of tracksuit / jogging trousers, a plain t-shirt and a plain sweatshirt / hoodie.  As the weather improves, they will wear shorts and t-shirt outside.

We have had a busy start to year 3. The children have settled in well and are getting used to the new Key Stage 2 routines. We have even had a successful first ukulele lesson!

Our topic for this half term is learning about the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. We will be learning about what life was like for humans about 2000 - 10,000 years ago and learning about the changes in food, tools, homes and clothes that happened during that period. In Art we will be learning about prehistoric cave paintings and working on producing our own! This leads nicely into a Science topic about Rocks and Soils where we will learn about different rocks and their properties, as well as learning about how fossils were formed. We are also taking the children on a trip to Herd Farm for an Iron Age experience which promises to be a fantastic learning opportunity.

In English we will be linking our writing to our topic and writing a range of texts such as reports, descriptions and stories. We will also learn and perform poems, as well as holding debates and delivering talks.

In Mathematics we are focussing on partitioning and place value (hundreds, tens and ones) and working on key facts such as number bonds and times tables. We also encourage the children to continue their work at home by accessing the games we have assigned them on the Active Learn website.
Reading
Reading at home has a huge impact on your child's progress and we ask that your child reads to an adult at least 3 times a week, every night is even better! Please sign your child's reading record and write any appropriate comments. This could be how well they read or parts they found hard.

Spellings
Children will bring home spellings on a Friday. These will be linked to what they have been learning in their spelling sessions. It is important that they try to read and spell the words on the list.

Maths - Abacus
Our new maths scheme enables your child to access current maths topics and other related games in the comfort of your own home. At school we will show your child how to navigate their way around the website but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
